Susie’s Lemonade Shows How Verizon Can Help Small Businesses
I can fondly remember selling lemonade or Kool Aid on my Grandmom’s street corner with my little brother. Verizon however is taking the concept of the good old lemonade stand and taking it to another level.
Verizon’s Susie’s Lemonade Ad
This ad is pretty good. Verizon has done a good job. I couldn’t help but smile at the ad the first time around. Let’s break it down further and see where Verizon has succeeded with this one.
First, the concept of a lemonade stand is something that the majority of people can relate to. If you didn’t man one as a kid chances are you know someone in the neighborhood that did. That really brings the ad home to people, give them a personal connection to a product or service. This is something I’m all about.
Second, if we suspend just SOME realism this could happen. Alright sure a kid couldn’t walk into a business and present some crazy report on lemonade, but guess what…everything else is pretty crazy. Plus it’s great symbolism for a small business. Does it get any smaller then a lemonade stand? I don’t think so.
Verizon’s Services in Susie’s Lemonade Stand
Let’s take a look at the services that Verizon is offering in this ad. That’s the main reason why I feel thi ad works. It shows everything that Verizon can do for you.
First, we have Susie dividing her neighborhood up using some type of Map feature. This obviously is using GPS account, which isn’t anything special by today’s standards. However it hits very high on the “cuteness” scale that this commercial operates on.
Second, we see a worker of Susie’s using a credit card app to process a customers order. The phone now has an attachment for sliding credit cards through. I’ve always thought that this is such a great thing to offer small business. I’ve had experience dealing with credit card machines in a small business setting and there can be a lot of problems associated with that.
Third, Susie now has a tablet. Of course she does that’s the logical progression for her business model. She’s presenting what looks to be like a slide show to potential investors. Again, something that is a very valuable tool for a small business.
Fourth, we see Susie chatting with someone using a computer and a Wi-Fi plugin. This one I thought was a little much, but it’s still “cute” with her mentioning she wants monkey bars or a slide in her office. Also I have to think that a wifi plugin might be a better choice for a small business then an actual Wi-Fi network in house.
All in all I think the showcasing of the products through the character of Susie was excellent for Verizon. It shows that they can provide all these services and more to your small business. Excellent play here for Verzion giving the upcoming Summer.
Verizon’s Lemonade Stand in Closing
Alright, so this ad campaign really does it all. It introduces us to characters that we can relate to, shows us products that we might want or need. It really excels in every way I can think. Most importantly I feel like it really connects with the demographic they are going with. That demographic is slightly older, perhaps younger parents who are struggling with a small business.
Make sure you keep coming back to Social Medianaires for more analysis on ad campaigns.
And Verizon, you’ve got me thirsting for some lemonade.

The commercial starts logically but gets quite silly when she thinks her homemade lemonade will stay as good when it’s produced in bulk. Who would put money behind a little girl selling factory lemonade when we already have Minute Maid & other mass produced lemonade? And the whole thing goes into the tank when we see a building put on top of Susie’s house. It started cute and quickly lost any credibility it had. EPIC FAIL!
